Board of Directors Announcements

The Board of Directors of BASH hereby gives notice of a Special Business Meeting to be held on March 12, 2018, at 7:30 PM at our regular weekly singing at 2431 Ridge Rd, Berkeley, CA.

Members will be asked to vote on a proposed change to the BASH bylaws. No other business will be transacted.

The suggested change to the Bylaws, as unanimously proposed by the Board, is as follows:

Current language in Article 4, Section 1:

“A person must have been a member of BASH for one year to be eligible to hold office as a Director.”

Proposed new language for Article 4, Section 1, to be presented to BASH membership for a vote:

“A person must have been a member of BASH for one year to be eligible to hold office as a Director, except that a person who has has been involved in the Sacred Harp singing community for at least three years, and has attended at least two all-day singings in the area in the previous year, may also be eligible despite not meeting the membership qualification (unless there is an objection to eligibility that is supported by at least one third of voters at the meeting at which the vote is to be taken on such person taking office).”

Reason for the proposed change: The current Bylaws state that membership in BASH expires at the end of each annual business meeting. The Board proposes this change so that the pool of candidates for Board positions can be expanded to include active singers who are otherwise eligible to hold office, but who were not present at the previous year’s business meeting (or who may have let their membership lapse).

The full text of the BASH bylaws can be viewed here. Please contact Erika Wilson with any questions.

The annual BASH membership meeting will take place in April 2018.
