Travel Grants

Purpose

In order to promote and support Sacred Harp singing, and in keeping with the Sacred Harp traditions of hospitality and inclusivity, BASH offers travel grants to help singers attend singings when finances are a barrier to participation.

Eligibility

  • Preference given to new singers (singing 2 years or less), singers who have attended 3 or fewer all day singings in the past year, and singers residing in the Greater Bay Area. We might not always have funds to offer out-of-area singers travel grants to the Bay Area.
  • Singings must be at least one full day.
  • A singer may receive no more than one travel grant per calendar year.
  • Current BASH Board members, Travel Grant Committee members, and their families are ineligible.
  • While no proof of financial need is required, singers should respect BASH’s limited funds and only request a travel grant when finances present a barrier to traveling for singing.

Eligible expenses are travel costs such as transportation, lodging, meals, etc. Maximum request is $599, and partial awards may be made. Please note that smaller requests means BASH is able to give grants to more singers! Grant awards may be made in advance or as a reimbursement. Receipts must be provided for the amount of the grant and any unused funds must be returned to BASH.

Grants are reviewed by the BASH Travel Grants Committee and reviewed and approved by the BASH Board of Directors. Questions should be sent to grants@bayareasacredharp.org.
